Saint Nicholas at sea
Egg tempera on prepared plywood. 26x20cm
Saint Nicholas is a beloved saint east and west. There are many stories associated with him including saving seamen in a miraculous way from the dangers of the sea. The video in this link is a wonderful introduction to this saint for those who are not familiar with eastern orthodox christian lore.
If there is a storm brewing in your life and you are lost at sea, this is for you. I wish you safe harbours.

Christ
Watercolour on Fabriano artistico, 30,5x45,5cm.
This is a watercolour study of a 15th century icon created by the incredible painter Angelos Akotantos, a master of the Cretan school in Byzantine art.
As a painter you are involved in the practical aspects of what works and what doesn't when creating any image. There are so many details that make an image like this hold together. It's been a fascinating exercise in observation. Whatever you learn from a master painter makes anything else that you do stronger.
